“The new reading experience”

Next year I’m going to do my ‘masters’ study and I’m looking forward to it. My research subject will be “The New Reading”. In anticipation of this research I bought - no my wife bought me - an e-reader called Be-Book. I – I mean my wife – choose this one because it had a touchscreen and Wifi. IThese features seemed handy and the are. My first reading-experiences with are quit good. I like it. Its light, you don’t have the feeling of a ‘computerthingy’ and reading from e-Ink is definitely better than Light emitting screens. So as a consumer I’m not unhappy with it. As a developer I’m anxious to explore the limitations.

How will I get my iFix?

I know that it's kind of predictable to write something about the iPad, but those who know me, know that I am hooked on all new Apple gadgets. iPad is Apple's newest gadget, a must-have for an addict such as myself. It is a multi touch tablet apparatus that's used for... well, we'll get back to that later. There's only one problem with it, but because the problem is related to it's usage, I'll get into that later as well. First a brief history how I became addicted to Apple.

Daily life is becoming more and more complex despite the increasing use of ‘intelligent’ applications and services. The latest being the iPad. Of course ‘intelligent’ is a term whose meaning is quite relative, as Negroponte has already subtly pointed out: “A dog can recognize you from your gait more than one hundred yards away, whereas a computer does not even know you are there. Almost any pet can tell when you are angry, but a computer does not have a clue. Even puppies know when they have done wrong; computers don’t.”
