Impact from Lisanne

Graduate Student

In 2006 I finished college. Filled with doubt about the next step I was about to take in my life, I started off with the educational program of Digital Communication at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht. At first, my dreams were to be a great designer and text writer. But as I moved along I discovered the inevitable thought of how to design or to write as accessible as possible for the viewer/reader who’d be exposed to it, was even more interesting to me than designing itself. This is why I chose to follow a minor in cognitive psychology at Utrecht University. This minor brought me knowledge of cognitive ergonomics and interaction design. Now, Crossmedialab gives me the opportunity to do research in the context of this study and learn more about my interests in the human experience of design.

Within this scope, the accessibility of art in musea is something I have always questioned. Some musea fill their spaces with inconsistent artwork that even an experienced museum visitor can’t understand without explanations. With my research at Crossmedialab I want to contribute to a better supply of contextual information, by all kinds of media to artwork in musea. At the end of my research I hope to convince musea that the use of media in a museum can contribute to a more positive museum experience of the visitor.
