Graduate Student

As students Mediatechnology at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (HU) Yun Chen and myself knocked on the door of the Crossmedialab to graduate in the RME-project. RME (Rich Media in Education) is part of the OASE-project which consists of several universities doing research and work in the field of weblecturing. In 2009 the HU started a pilot investigating the possibilities of recording (student) presentations.

Our plan is to research the gains of collaborative tagging to weblecturing and apply these to current weblectureplatforms. Collaborative tagging is a way of categorizing content applied successfully by internet applications. In our believe the use of rich media in education can learn a lot from the more commercial webplatforms, and collaborative tagging can be a great start.

I started studying Mediatechnology in 2006 willing to combine my creativity and technical background. Internet and mobile kept growing and I knew I wanted to create and realize concepts for them. Mediatechnology proved to be a good way to learn the basic principles of these fields. Soon I found myself specializing in thinking up and developing (web)applications.

As I enjoy to create concepts for both internet and mobile but missed being able to use them myself for study purposes, this project seems like a good way of helping the introduction of crossmedia in education a step further.
