After making the mistake of starting to study Social Work in Amsterdam, I ended up working and wondering for six months, until I read the description for the International Communication & Media program online. Drawn to the international character combined with new media while still feeding my general interest in people, I started my studies in 2007.
When I got the chance to study abroad in my third year, I exchanged Utrecht for Preston, UK for a semester, wanting to engage in courses which would more let me study people and culture. Unfortunately, the exchange was made based on journalism students and I was stuck taking mostly language related courses. I did however love my Media Ethics course, which later lead me to choosing the ICM Media specialization for my graduation year.
Outside of school, I am either in a bar or club, writing anything from diary entries to short stories to (so-far unfinished) books, or reading novels. I also love to watch 'human interest shows' (aka trash tv) like Jersey Shore, Oh oh Cherso and Spoorloos. it's a guilty pleasure and a fascinating insight into some peoples lives. The latter is a personal favorite due to being adopted myself. I am just generally interested in culture and how ones background is so vital to who we are. That interest is wat led me to the Roots2Share project, which is all about giving back history to the native people of Greenland. For Roots2Share I will research the possibilities of using different types of media to stimulate active participation to an online cultural heritage platform.
