Marlies Havenga
Graduate student
After my high school graduation I took time to travel through Spain for half a year, after which I started my BA Art History at Leiden University. During this BA I developed an interest in the concept of visual language. And so in 2005 I took on another challenge: Dutch Sign Linguistics. This BA at the University of Amsterdam enabled me to learn more about visual linguistic theory. Both BA's are now finished. My MA Comparative Arts and Media Studies (VU University Amsterdam) combines my BA's by focussing on overlaps between different types of cultural production. In other words, by specializing in intermediality.
Recently I've started working on my MA thesis. This research is imbedded in a larger project by Crossmedialab called Museum Crossmedia Monitor. I aim to create a framework to achieve comparability between crossmedia concepts within museums by focussing on the cognitive structures of storytelling. The following three case studies will be analyzed: the Aboriginal Art Museum, the Railway Museum and the Utrecht Archives.
