Charlotte van Nus
Junior Researcher
My name is Charlotte van Nus and I am junior researcher at the Faculty of Communication and Journalism at the Hogeschool Utrecht (University of Applied Science). During my undergrad at the University of Twente (Communication Science) I explored the “communication field” from a behavioral science perspective. As a communication student I gained research experience at several organizations, for example the addiction care institution Tactus Verslavingszorg (image research) and the Bam Woningbouw (evaluation research). My main research project (dissertation master Communication Studies) was about examining the influences of reorganizations at a Health Care Organization on the ways survivors cope with their job. Currently I am writing a paper about this study.
In 2009 I executed an internship at a market research agency in Santiago de Chile. I aimed to experience the communication profession in a culture totally different than the Dutch. To immerse in the Chilean culture I lived with a Chilean family. Last year I’ve also written my dissertation abroad, in Oxford (UK). These international experiences are very important to me, because they provide new perspectives and enlarge ones world view. Therefore I like to travel around the world.
In general I am very interested in issues related to human behavior. More specifically I like to explore from which perspectives and motives people act, how they carry out these values, how they identify themselves and finally how they add meaning to this. Secondly I am interested in how organizations respond to these behavioral processes. In the Cross Media Business lectureship I can apply these interests for example at a strategic level to ensure the professional field (businesses, industries) responds to their target groups. Especially in a diverse and interactive communication landscape with many channels and ways to reach and communicate with a consumer I think this is an interesting issue. Finally, I like to put my creativity into practice, both in my personal life (creating flyers, sketching) as in my professional life (thinking about creative concepts to shape organizational targets).
In my spare time I like to read, cook and visit cultural events, especially musical events (jazz, tango and classical music).
